Fundus Photography

The images below are all fundus photos & the fundus is the base of the organ. The bright spot is the optic nerve & the dark spot that's slightly below that is the fovea which is where the central vision comes from. The retina gathers all the visual sensory information & sends it along the optic nerve to the brain.

This is a fundus photograph of a normal retina that was shot on the Zeiss FF450.

These images were shot with the Optos. The Optos is used when a wider view of the retina is needed, it can allow you to see 82% whereas a standard machine will provide only 11%.

National Cemetery

This is a photograph of the National Cemetery in Wilmington, NC. A national cemetery is a cemetery maintained by the US government for people who have served honorably in the armed forces. My great aunt & uncle who fought in WWII are both buried in this cemetery. For this image I wanted to show a great amount of tombstones while also focusing on the idealism of the American flag. At this cemetery there are so many beautiful oak trees so I used them to help frame where I wanted the eye to go.

Newborn Portraits

I photographed these images almost 3 weeks after this little girl was born. The photos were taken in a room at her home with great window lighting. With that being said, window light was the only light source used.

I used this image glass for my object lighting portfolio. It was shot in the studio with a Nikon D300 & my fellow classmate Scarlet Jovin-Fisher poured the water for me as took the shot. The other camera settings were f/8 @ 400th sec.

Creative Montage Assignment

For this assignment we had to randomly select words out of a box to create a photograph. My words were academic, memory, bottle, sunglasses & ring/necklace.

The main picture with Erin daydreaming was photographed at the Randolph Community College library. The memory image was photographed at a friends house. To create the memory bubble I used the marquee tool in Photoshop. or the main image I made the photo black & white then added a layer mask to bring back the color in selected areas.

A Little Piece of Home

Over the Thanksgiving break I was able to go to my home town of Wilmington, NC. While there I decided to do an HDR image of the Cape Fear Bridge which is 1 of the 2 bridges you cross over that will bring you into Wilmington. I wanted to have a good photo of this bridge because I have no intentions of moving back there after graduation. For me this bridge is very symbolic because once I get to that bridge I know I'm home. So I am very grateful I learned how to do an HDR because that process made this picture look so much better than what I imagined.

Chocolate Assignment

For this Assignment we were to photograph chocolate in any form that could be used in a press release. I like the idea of being able to see the inside of the candy & showing the different textures. The candy I used was Snickers, 100Grand, Baby Ruth & 3 Musketeers

The Fruit/Veggie Assignment

For this assignment we had to photograph fruits or vegetables. I shot this because I liked the idea of the cucumbers cut up then put back together like a puzzle.

The Setup:
A string tied to the stand then tied to the clap that is clamped to the skewer that is inserted in the cucumber. It was shot with a Nikon D700 at ISO 200. I also used the Lens Babies

For my personal amusement with this assignment I took a photo of Oscar. Oscar is a Red Delicious Apple with black eye peas for eyes & I used the bottom of the apple for the rest of his facial features. For the lighting only a flash light was used & it was shot with a Nikon D700 at ISO 200 at f/8.

Downtown Asheboro Panoramic

For the panoramic assignment I shot a 360 of downtown Asheboro at night. This panoramic is a 360 because there is something in the beginning that is also in the end. It was shot with a Nikon D300 at f8 & an ISO of 200. At the top of the image the boarder is not completely straight because doing so would've resulted in the tops of the buildings being cut off.

For this assignment I was suppose to create a high technoidish photograph of a cell phone. For this image I used a circuit board, plexiglas & my cell phone. It was shot with a Canon 5D at f16 & ISO of 200. I also worked on it in Photoshop.

The Water Assignment

For this assignment I was suppose to capture water in a way it could be understood universally. I shot 2 images the first is the one I chose to turn in & it is an image of a fountain in Downtown Asheboro. I chose this one because when I think about water it's clear & pure like something I would want to drink. The second is water on the trunk of my car & the rainbow is a reflection from my umbrella.

Flower Power

Over the weekend I decided to go on a photo safari in Greensboro, NC & because I don't know the area I got lost....so I decided to shoot some flowers. All photos were shot with a D300 using a 17-35mm lens at an ISO of 200 & they were edited in Adobe Photoshop. In Photoshop I used filters for all 3 images. Top: colored pencil filter, Middle: diffused glow filter, Bottom: high pass filter

Downtown Asheboro

A trip to downtown Asheboro for my object lighting class. The assignment was to photograph what you saw with an open heart & mind. We focused on lines, shapes, textures & design. Here are a few of the things I shot. All images were shot with a Nikon D70 using a 24-85 & 70-200mm lens & editing was done in Adobe Photoshop.

This is the HDR assignment for my Digital Imaging class. For this image I shot 9 images of the same scene. I bracketed the exposures & then combined the images using the Photomatix software. I also used Photoshop for some final retouches.

A Self Portrait

A creative self portrait for my Digital Imaging class
For this picture I took 5 individual shots of myself holding a different camera each time. In Photoshop I opened a new document & then cut out each image of myself & place them onto a new document. For the reflection I created a duplicate of the then I flipped the image upside down & then turned it horizontal, then I moved the second image to the first one.

Asheboro Fire Department

The Asheboro Fire Department burned a house Thursday evening on Sunset St. for training purposes. This was an amazing experience for me to be out there & to see some of the stuff firefighters go through for their job. I knew in advance about the fire & I spoke with Eddie Cockman of the AFD who allowed me to photograph the training.

U.S. National Whitewater Center

The Quick Hit Photo Story was shot for my BioCom-Photojourn class. The assignment was to go to somewhere write a story & have 7 photos to go along with it. We only had 24hrs to do it & could not go back for any additional information or pictures once you were gone. This story was my favorite!

Lumen Printing

How to create your own Lumen Print:

Arrange some plant life onto black & white photo paper (old paper works well for this) & top with glass to slightly flatten the greenery. Leave it in the sun for as long as you wish. The heat the will cause the photographic paper to get moist in the area of contact with the plant. This process produces color shifts & as the exposure progresses the paper will darken.

After your print is created make a digital copy using a flatbed scanner or a digital camera. Open that image in Adobe Photoshop & enhance as much or as little as you like.
